Some mothers are a bit anxious about newborn photo sessions, and boy, do I get it.  As a mother of four, I well remember the days when my children were babies—the sleepless nights, the nursing, having to care for other children while praying that the little one doesn’t wake up too soon.  Moms are superheroes, and I like to think of myself as the trusty sidekick, coming in at just the right moment to capture just how remarkable family love truly is.

Comfort and ease are bywords in a newborn session, and Derek and Marie took that to heart—baby boy made the fifth addition to their beautiful family, and was welcomed into loving, careful, experienced arms.  Grandma was on hand to help keep the older children amused—always a huge help!—and everything went so well we all ventured out into the fresh snow to catch a few shots of their tidy and well-maintained farm.

When it comes to newborn photos, props and outfits are wonderful—if your time and mental space allow for it—but the only thing you really need is to feel comfortable.  There’s a special love that emanates from a family’s faces when they welcome a new little life, and no amount of tired eyes, stained clothes or crumb-covered floors can hide it. (Not that I found any crumbs on Marie’s floors. ;) ) I’m so happy that Derek and Marie continue to entrust me with capturing these wonderful moments in their growing family’s lives as they celebrate a new arrival.
